Boney Work Named Best in Trail of Tears Art Show

“Our Father,” a pen-and-ink drawing by Roy Boney, Jr., was named Grand Prize winner of the Trail of Tears Art Show, sponsored by the Cherokee Nation Heritage Center at Park Hill, Oklahoma.

Boney, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, is a graduate student in the UALR Art Department and holds the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Fellowship in the Sequoyah Research Center.

Boney combines wit and artistic talent in the two works he entered in the show—“Cherokee Nation vs Georgia,” a painting, and the award winning “Our Father,” a portrait of Andrew Jackson.

The prestigious Trail of Tears Show attracts American Indian Artists and art enthusiasts from all over the nation.  Now in its thirty-fifth year, the show runs from April 29 to May 28.  For more information about it, visit http://cherokeeheritage.org.
